Superior Comprehensive Pet Care
Similar to people, cats and dogs require different types of support at different stages in their lives. At Guthrie Pet Hospital, you can trust our knowledgeable staff to make recommendations that are tailored to your pet based on age, lifestyle, breed, and other related factors.
While every pet’s needs are unique, our team is sure to cover the following topics as part of a comprehensive wellness plan:
- Flea and tick/parasite prevention
- Behavioral training/issues
- Dental care
- Nutrition/obesity prevention
- Vaccinations
We also provide a “report card,” which includes your pet’s picture, basic information, and summaries and recommendations for major health and wellness areas. This is an effective method to keep you updated on your cat or dog’s condition and is a great tool to refer to at home.
Caring for Your New Kitten or Puppy
Raising a puppy or kitten is fun, exciting, and a BIG job. Remember, there are no stupid questions when it comes to your new pet, and our team is standing by, ready to help. We generally recommend the following for every kitten or puppy:
- Physical exams
Young pets should receive 3 to 4 exams in the first 8 to 16 weeks of their lives. These initial assessments allow us to gauge their overall health and to administer vaccines and other necessary treatments.
- Vaccinations
All pets should receive a series of vaccines when they’re young due to underdeveloped immune systems. Our recommendations are based on industry-established guidelines, breed, and lifestyle.
- Diagnostic testing
We recommend every puppy be tested for heartworm at 10 months of age and kittens be tested for feline leukemia and AIDS during their first visit.
- Additional recommendations
Our staff will discuss any other services that may be appropriate for your puppy or kitten including spaying/neutering, microchipping, or special diet considerations.
Senior Pet Care
We also focus on increased care in the following areas:
- Early detection of disease
- Environmental changes/considerations
- Increased parasite control
- Maintaining mobility
- Management of chronic diseases (e.g., arthritis)
